KINGSFORD — A Kingsford resident and several pets died in a fire after an electric bicycle exploded inside the house on Tuesday.

Kingsford Public Safety was dispatched to 109 Balsam St. at 11:21 p.m. for a report of an explosion.

According to the KPS press release upon arrival the residence was an active structure fire, with one victim being reported trapped inside. The victim was later pronounced dead. The name is being withheld pending completion of the investigation.

Two other occupants of the home were able to escape.

The Michigan State Police Fire Marshal will be assisting with the investigation.

KPS was assisted by Dickinson County Sheriff Department and Dispatch, Iron Mountain Fire Department, Integrity Care Ambulance, Iron Mountain Police Department, WE Energies and DTE Energy.
