Gladstone native Roy promoted to sergeant major in Marine Corps Reserves

GLADSTONE — The community of Gladstone is proud to celebrate the recent promotion of Joe Roy to the rank of Sergeant Major in the United States Marine Corps Reserves. This milestone, achieved on Jan. 10, marks the culmination of a distinguished 23-year military career dedicated to service, leadership and excellence.

Raised in Gladstone, Roy began his military journey when he completed recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot in San Diego, California, in April 2003. Following his training, he was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marines in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, where he distinguished himself as a dedicated and skilled Marine.

Sergeant Major Roy’s commitment to excellence has earned him multiple personal awards, including:

• The Purple Heart

• Combat Action Ribbon (with one gold star)

• Navy Commendation Medal (with two gold stars)

• Joint Service Commendation Medal

• Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (with three gold stars)

In addition to his military accomplishments, Sergeant Major Roy is a graduate of Gladstone High School in the class of 2002, and resides in Oceanside, California, with his wife, Jessica, and their three children: Harper, Jameson and Jack.

His parents are Mike Roy of Ishpeming and Denise (Steve) Gauthier of Gladstone.
