Augusta Suzanne “Sue” Foster

NEGAUNEE, MI Augusta Suzanne “Sue” Foster, age 94, of Negaunee, passed away January 5, 2026, at the Eastwood Nursing Center in Negaunee.

Sue was born January 3, 1932, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the only child of the late Leo and Isabel (Mockler) Rudnicki. She grew up in the Minneapolis area and was known from an early age for her love of reading. She attended Incarnation Grade School and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1950. Sue often said that while school was not her greatest passion, her true aspiration was to become a wife and mother.

After high school, Sue worked for a time at a bank and held several other jobs before devoting herself to raising a family. She started her family in Minneapolis, and she was the loving mother of three children. Some of her children’s fondest memories is of Sue reading bedtime stories to all three of them and insisting they finish every bit of food on their plates, no matter how long it took. Sue had a warm sense of humor and a streak of stubbornness that those who loved her came to cherish.

Once her children were grown, Sue moved to Michigan’s Upper Peninsula in the late 1990s. When she arrived in Marquette she felt immediately at home and remained in the region for the rest of her life. She said it was where she belonged. Sue had been a resident of Eastwood Nursing Center for the past six years.

Sue was a member of Northern Borders Church in Marquette, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She was a faithful woman who prayed regularly and loved singing and dancing.

Sue is survived by her three children, Alfred (Heather) Ness Jr. of Ramsey, MN, Nancie (Michael) Gabriel of White Bear Lake, MN, Richard Ness of Minneapolis, MN; Grandchildren, Alyssa Ness and Tyler Ness; and her dear close friend Mary Carter.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Isabel (Mockler) Rudnicki.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at Northern Borders Church in Marquette, MI. Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m. and go until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Pastor General Brown will officiate.
