NMU men get three Academic All-American nods

MARQUETTE — Three members of the Northern Michigan University Men’s Swimming and Diving team have been awarded the distinction of College Sports Communicators Academic All-America nods after an announcement Wednesday.
William LaCount, Leo Nolles and Tobie Stiles, all juniors, have been honored for their outstanding academic achievements as well as their athletic contributions to the swim and dive team.
This marks LaCount’s second instance of second team honors, as he earned the same distinction last season, and the first Academic All-America distinction for both Nolles and Stiles, both landing on the third team.
LaCount, a junior carrying a 3.87 GPA, earned silver in 200 free relay at the 2025 NCAA championship along with four All-America honors. At this years GLIAC Championships, LaCount earned gold in the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay, 400 free relay, and silver in the 400 medley relay. LaCount, a 2024 CSC All-District recipient, now adds his second All-America distinction in back-to-back seasons.
Nolles, a junior majoring in Athletic Coaching, has a GPA of 3.69. This season, Nolles was named the 2025 GLIAC Swimmer of the Year, earned two individual bronze medals in the 50 and 100 free and silver medal in the 200 free relay at this year’s NCAA Championship, along with six All-America honors. At this years conference championships, Nolles earned seven medals. Nolles also competed in the 2024 Paris Olympics for Uruguay. Nolles earns his second-straight CSC Academic All-District honor, and first All-America honor.
Stiles, a Junior majoring in Marketing with a 3.82 GPA, is a second-team All-American in 1 and 3 meter diving both this year and last year at the NCAA Championships along with earning a silver medal in the 1-meter dive at this years conference championship. The 2023 GLIAC Diver of the year earns his second-straight Academic All-District honor and the first time in his career earning Academic All-America honors.
