NCB to present ‘An American Salute’
NEGAUNEE — Director Lucas Wickstrom has chosen selections for this week’s Negaunee City Band concert to celebrate the Independence Day holiday. The concert will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Outdoor Performing Arts Center at the east end of Iron Street.
The program features several popular and well-known marches, including Sousa’s “Washington Post” and “Semper Fidelis,” “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore, and “Bells of Freedom” by David Gillingham.
There will be an “Armed Forces Salute” paying tribute to those who serve our country inuniform.
There are several medleys featuring typical American tunes, including “An American Spectacular,” a musical history of the United States, with numbers such as “The Girl I Left Behind Me,” “When Johnny Comes Marching Home” and “America the Beautiful.”
“American Riversongs” includes “Shenandoah,” and several other selections going back to an earlier time when rivers were the lifelines of our growing nation. “American Barndance” is another reminder of early America.
Also on the program are “Bugle Call Boogie” and “Highlights from Jersey Boys,” the story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons.
The concert will conclude with the usual “Just a Closer Walk with Thee.”
