Marquette City Band sets season tonight

MARQUETTE — The Marquette City Band, conducted by Stephen Grugin, will present the first concert of its 2024 Summer Concert Series at 7:30 tonight at the band shell in Presque Isle Park in Marquette. This marks the 138th year of performances by Marquette’s community band.

Tonight’s “Summer Season Opener” will feature a variety of traditional and contemporary band music including: “Flourish for Wind Band” by Vaughan Williams, “Second Suite in F” by Holst, “Fascinating Rhythm” by Gershwin, “Normandy Beach” by Edmondson, “Northern Lights” by Nishimura, “Amparito Roca” by Winter, “Seventy-Six Trombones” by Wilson, and “Circus Days” by King.

The concert is free and donations are appreciated. In case of inclement weather, the concert will be held at NMU’s Reynolds Recital Hall.
