Barrel + Beam’s Nicolette Schultz, Nichole Christensen knock ‘em out of the park in Iron Range Women’s Softball League

ISHPEMING — Nichole Christensen and Nicolette Schultz both pulled off the most dramatic of feats, hitting an over-the-fence home run, to lead Barrel + Beam to a 21-1 victory over Pasquali’s in a Class A game of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Wednesday.

Teammate Bobbi Ayotte also had a special day, going 5 for 5 with two doubles and five RBIs, while the winners’ Rayna Warchock hit a triple and Amanda Harlock a double.

For Pasquali’s, Tayler Gray, who was also credited for great pitching, Frannie Kelly and Jill Howard all went 2 for 3.

In another “A” game, Brandi Logan and Abbie Salisbury both went 4 for 4 to lead Congress Pizzas to a 23-5 win over LaCosse & Associates, whose Jenna Wedgeworth collected two hits.

Morgan Carlson hit a triple and double while Jen Bahrman doubled as River Rock scored a 21-7 win over Dave’s Collision-Jack’s, which saw Nichol Trejo go 3 for 4 and Adrienne Suardini triple.

Hannah Holma scored three runs and Beth Christianson had several great hits as Screened Image-Barr’s Bar recorded a 14-5 win over Jasper Ridge Brewery, whose Dany Bleau doubled.

In Class B, Toni Tikkanen, Chesley Wunder and Kathy Johnson each went 5 for 6 as Pineshears outscored Willey’s Tire Shop 33-21.

Tikkanen also cracked two homers, Wunder had one, and Johnson and teammate Katrina Brown each had a double.

Willey’s Cherie Johnson was 4 for 4 with a double, while Beckey Grove 4 for 5 with a triple.

In another “B” contest, winning pitcher Kathy Gischia got help from the MVP-like defensive effort of Rosemary Korpi as Palomaki Family Chiropractic pulled out a 10-9 win over Martin Sports.

Jojo West went 3 for 4 with a triple and four RBIs as the Eagles zipped past Paradise Bar 18-11. The winners’ Des Fernandes also was 3 for 4 with three RBIs, while teammate Ecko Popps was 3 for 3 with a double and RBI.

Paradise’s Katie Mitchell and Hailey Hytinen each went 4 for 4, Mitchell clubbing two homers and Hytinen one. Teammate Kathy Lynch contributed a triple.

Taryn Myers tripled and Aspen Tackman and Melissa Bauer each doubled as Tino’s eased past Signs Unlimited 13-10.

Elks Lodge won by forfeit over Quality Car Care.
