Down Memory Lane with Mary Jayne

The article at left is from a dated submission to the Munising News years ago featuring Hub Perreault who was a favorite local grocery store owner and driving force behind The March of Dimes effort in Alger County. Having lost their only son to Polio, Hub soon became the spokesperson and Chairman for over 47 years. When a vaccine became available, the LaMothe Hall in Sacred Heart Church became the headquarters. The physician administering the vaccine in the photo was Dr. Wickstrom. As a side note, I can remember Hub following through on a challenge to stand on his head in the snow in front of People’s State Bank for a donation. Hub was a true hero for our community.

Below is a just a fun picture of what is now called the Terrace Motel in Munising. This has been in my collection for years and was called “Cousineau’s Terrace Court Cabins” when the photo was taken (not sure what year). Back then cabins were a familiar site on Munising Avenue and commonly located next to gas stations. Fill up your tank and rent a modest cabin for the night. (Photos courtesy of Mary Jayne Hallifax)
