NEGAUNEE — Marquette County Habitat for Humanity’s newest home build in Negaunee got a free roof, thanks to local contractor Rainy Creek Construction and GAF, one of the country’s largest roof manufacturers.

Rainy Creek, a GAF Master Elite contractor, donates labor while GAF donated all the materials, Habitat for Humanity said in a news release. The roof installation took place on July 27-28 at 729 Carr St, Negaunee.

With the continuing rise of material costs, donations like these are critical in keeping new construction costs affordable for Habitat’s new homes and their Partner Families, the organization said. Each adult in a participating Partner Family has to put in 250 hours of sweat equity, or invested time, into the project.

Upon completion of the home, the family is set up with an affordable mortgage. Anyone interested in helping with affordable housing in the community may contact the Habitat main office at 906-228-3578 to learn about opportunities to volunteer or donate.

Starting at $3.23/week.
