Down memory lane with Mary Jayne

Alger County saw its first logging operations in 1877. That gave rise to several logging camps in the area. The camps eventually closed, leaving many of the workers in need of shelter. The Moore House, built in 1896 on the 300 block of Superior Street, and other housing units like it became home for many of the displaced loggers.

Obviously I did not take this picture myself but it has become part of my collection of over 100,000 digital photos.

This Ski School patch was found in a drawer recently. It shows one of us must have participated in a Mining Journal Ski School.
