Food assistance offered to U.P. military veterans

By JOURNAL STAFF

ISHPEMING — The Veterans Community Action Teams and the Upper Peninsula Commission for Area Progress have teamed up to provide food assistance and help find resources needed for Upper Peninsula residents who have served in the military.

This includes veterans, surviving spouses who have not remarried and may include caregivers of veterans.

To qualify, applicants must live in the U.P. and have proof of military service.

Those looking to verify service are asked to contact UPCAP’s veterans program manager at lombardf@upcap.org or call 906-282-0041.

To apply, call 1-800-338-1119 throughout the week between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

The veteran food card will be made available while supplies last.

For more information about Michigan’s veterans services, visit michigan.gov/mvaa or upcap.org.

Starting at $3.23/week.
