ATV driver injured in Marinette County crash

ATHELSTANE, Wis. — An all-terrain vehicle driver was injured in a Friday crash in Marinette County, Wisconsin.

Marinette County Sheriff Randy Miller reported in a news release that at 5:34 p.m., Marinette County Dispatch received a call reporting an ATV crash on Forest Road 221, which is part of the ATV trail system in Athelstane.

Evidence at the scene showed an adult male, who was the lone occupant of the ATV, lost control while negotiating a corner. The ATV entered the south ditch and ended resting against a tree facing east.

The ATV operator was wearing a helmet but was ejected and also struck a tree. The operator was transported by Silver Cliff Rescue and then flighted to Green Bay, Wisconsin, for advanced medical treatment by Eagle III.

The accident remains under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the Marinette County Sheriff’s Office.
