MARQUETTE — Four players from Negaunee and one from Marquette were named to the all-region team for Region 1 recently by the Michigan Interscholastic Volleyball Coaches Association.

MIVCA named 22 players from around the central and western Upper Peninsula to the Region 1 honors squad. Schools with players honored ranged geographically from Ironwood to Calumet to Marquette.

Negaunee’s honorees were senior setter Rachel Niskanen, senior middle hitter Eliana Juchemich, junior middle hitter Ashley Bell and junior libero Marisa Hird.

Marquette’s all-region player was junior middle blocker Jessica Gooch.
