Mary Kelly

NORFOLK, VA – Mary Kelly, age 75, former Ishpeming resident, passed away on Wednesday, October 12th, 2022, at Sentara Leigh Hospital in Norfolk, Virginia, after a year battle with breast cancer.

Mary was born on April 28th, 1947, in Norristown, PA. She married, James Kelly, who she met while he was in the Navy, March 15th, 1975, and moved to the UP.

Mary liked to knit hats for the Oncology unit of a local hospital, tend her flowers, and loved her cooking shows. She was very active with Book Clubs, Bible Study Groups, and was helping teach Sunday School at Calvary Presbyterian Church in Norfolk VA. She was also a member of the Auxiliary Unit of American Legion Post 327 in Norfolk.

Mary retired from the Ishpeming School District as a teacher’s aide and spent many years as a Lay Pastor of the United Presbyterian Church of Ishpeming. Moved to Norfolk about 8 years ago to be closer to her son.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband; James Kelly, parents; Robert and Anna (Fields) Detterline and a brother; Robert Detterline Jr.

Mary is survived by a son; Roger (Kimberly) Kelly, a brother; William Fields of Pennsylvania, stepgrandson; Gregory Morris that she absolutely adored, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Mary’s family will greet relatives and friends on Saturday, October 22nd, 2022, from 11:00 am until 12:00 noon, at the Bjork and Zhulkie Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be at 12:00 noon.

Interment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.
