State police find missing Houghton County man ‘alive and well’

DUNCAN TOWNSHIP – A missing 68-year-old Duncan Township man who walked away from his home on Sunday. According to a Michigan State Police news release, Ralph Aleo walked away from his residence on Firetower Road near South Sidnaw Road.

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Department found Aleo “alive and well” walking down a set of railroad tracks at about 1 p.m. on Monday.

Aleo told police he had left to go for a walk and became disoriented and lost. He said he sought refuge in a hunting blind and at one point even started a fire to stay warm.

The MSP Canine Unit, Baraga County Sheriff’s Department, Baraga County Search and Rescue, Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Superior Search and Rescue, the U.S. Forest Service, U.S. Coast Guard and the Duncan Township Fire Department assisted with the search.
