Logging truck accident claims man’s life in Humboldt Township

HUMBOLDT — An Ontonagon County man died as the result of a logging truck accident in Humboldt Township early this morning.

Officials say witnesses found the truck crashed into the cafe around 12:40 a.m. today and the deceased victim was found shortly thereafter, according to a Marquette County Sheriff’s Office press release.

Officials say it appears the 60-year-old driver parked his empty logging truck on the northbound shoulder of M-95. The truck rolled and struck the driver sometime after he exited the truck, police said.

The truck then continued to roll and crashed into the east wall of the Corner Cafe, the release states.

M-95 was closed to traffic for 3.5 hours during the scene investigation and documentation.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing and an inspection of the logging truck by the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier Division is pending.

The Marquette County Sheriff’s office was assisted at the scene by the Ishpeming Police Department, the Michigan State Police, UP Health System EMS, Ely Township First Responders and the Humboldt Township Fire Department.
