Canvassers verify election results, Brumm to ask for recount

Margaret Brumm

MARQUETTE — Results for the primary election were verified by the Marquette County Board of Canvassers around 3:30 p.m today, though Marquette City Commission candidate Margaret Brumm plans to challenge the count in her race, which saw her miss qualifying for the general election by about 20 votes.

The official statement of votes cast has not yet been made available online by the county board of canvassers, but Marquette City Commission candidates Evan Bonsall, Andrew Lorinser, Sally R. Davis and Nina van den Ende remain the top four vote-getters, according to officials at the Marquette County Clerk’s Office.

However, Brumm said she’s made an appointment for Monday with the county clerk’s office to request a recount for a number of reasons, she said in an email.

“I’m requesting a recount because of A) the change between the first and second set of results; B) the fact that only 21 votes separate me from the fourth place candidate; and C) to verify the integrity of the vote counting process after several people asked me, ‘what happened?'” Brumm wrote.

Brumm was the candidate with the fifth most votes — 546 as compared to van den Ende’s 567 votes.
