MARQUETTE — A father and son died in a house fire Sunday on Drummond Island in Chippewa County.

Chippewa County Sheriff Michael Bitnar said in a press release that 911 calls indicated 30-year-old Kyle Ray Messenger and his 5-year-old son were inside the house when emergency responders were dispatched to the scene along East Johnswood Road around 9:50 p.m. Sunday.

The investigation is ongoing as deputies and detectives continue to process the scene with the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Division, the release states.

The sheriff’s office is being assisted by the Michigan State Police, Drummond Island Fire Department/EMS and Chippewa County Central Dispatch.
