Everything in the store consists of American-made gifts and goodies that tell a story.
There are postcards on a turning shelf with pictures of the artist’s family on them and a brief description on the back; a black mannequin is situated in the corner near the front windows, necklaces and charms dangling in the sunlight; 100 percent up-cycled jewelry, both rustic and beautiful; dog collars that are waterproof, durable and “stink free”; beach frames made from reclaimed and recycled materials; and so much more.
“It’s important to us that we have a story to share with our customers about what they’re buying,” said Erica Smith, co-owner of The Gathered Earth.
According to the website, when searching for unique products to fill the shop, the Smiths have always made it a priority to find American-made or products from Fair Trade organizations. “Not only do we believe this is the right thing to do, but we also know how important it is to our clients to know the story behind their purchase, specifically where it’s from and how it’s made,” the website states.

After five years of being located in the Appleton area, the Smiths moved their store to Washington Street in Marquette. They opened in April this year and have been welcomed to the community by residents, neighbors and travelers alike.
The Gathered Earth plans on hosting several workshops in upcoming months that’ll focus on a variety of different crafts. In the past, they’ve done wool felting and holiday wreaths, providing supplies every time.
The Gathered Earth is located at 131 W. Washington St. in Marquette. The hours are: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday. Hours are likely to change over the course of the year, depending on the season and holidays.
