Tammelin leads big Cognition attack

NEGAUNEE — Terri Tammelin homered while going 3 for 3 and also scored three runs in Cognition Brewing Co.’s 9-7 victory over Screened Image/Venice 2 in Class A of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on June 5.
Teammates Madie Meyer and Megan Kinnunen also went 3 for 3 with Meyer scoring two runs and Kinnunen getting a triple.
The winners’ Jessica Geist tripled and Amanda Harlock doubled, while Screened/Venice’s Nicole Gustafson and Erin King were both 3 for 3.
Gustafson included a triple and double while scoring twice and King had a double.
Also for Screened/Venice, Emilee Rowe was 2 for 4 with two runs and Tammy Karp tripled.
Also in Class A, Sisters edged Riverside Club 15-13. The winners’ Anna Noskey homered, Ashley Nylander tripled and Kelly Hebert doubled; while Riverside’s Jordan Kowalski had a triple and double, Morgan Kowalski a triple and Thalicia DellAngelo and Alixis Kainulainen each a double.
Abbie Walters went 6 for 6 with three doubles while Sue Rice was 5 for 5 with a triple as Buck’s Party Store slipped past Heritage Glove Repair 20-16. Heritage’s Steph Robar was 4 for 5 with a double while Ann Wilder was 3 for 4 with a homer.
And in the division’s highest-scoring game, Tino’s breezed past Jasper Ridge Brewery 37-16. The winners’ Katie Rankinen hit an over-the-fence homer, while Josey Moyle had a grand slam homer and triple.
Jasper’s Erika Bjorne was 3 for 4 with a homer and LeAnn Saarela was 3 for 3.
In Class B, Hilary Richardson cracked a grand slam homer to lead Brogie’s to a 19-4 decision over Paradise Bar. Teammates Bree Ranta, Traci Sundberg and Brylea Ranta all homered, while Hannah Salmi and Staci Spencer each went 3 for 3.
Paradise’s Lisa Niemi had two hits.
Also in “B,” Jamee Gobert hit two homers and two doubles to support winning pitcher Libbie Donney as Dave’s Collision bamboozled Signs Unlimited 31-9.
Donney, who went 6 for 6 at the plate, was appearing for the first time on the rubber. Signs’ Becca LaChapelle went 2 for 2.
Amie Axford and Sarah Smith both went 5 for 6 while Loretta Willey homered in Globe Printing’s 26-15 win over Pasquali’s, which saw Nicki Frisk go 4 for 4.
Lori Rivord, who hit two homers, and Penny Soucey each went 4 for 4 to help Quality Car Care post a 19-4 win over Martin Sports, whose Kera Williams was 3 for 4 and Joanna Smail 2 for 3.
Colie Ball was 3 for 4 as Buster’s posted an 11-4 win over Venice, which cited Joline Silva for great play in left field.
In Class C, Echo Popps went 3 for 3 with a homer in the Negaunee Eagles’ narrow 6-5 victory over Palomaki Family Chiropractic. The winners’ Virginia Trudell was 2 for 2 with a double, while Palomaki’s Mallory Pruett went 4 for 4.
Also in “C,” Hailey Hytinen homered in Bertucci Construction’s 15-13 nailbiter over River Rock Lanes, which saw Jordan Fitzpatrick hit two homers, Kichiri Rodrick a triple and Kaylee O’Connor go 4 for 4.
Pineshears literally exploded with its bats in a 49-16 thrashing of U.P. Fabricating. The winners’ Chelsea Roberts, who hit two homers, Toni Tikkanen, who had one roundtripper, and Chelsey Wunder each went 6 for 6.
Teammates Livvie Wood, who slapped four triples, and Chelsea Hewitt, who homered, were both 5 for 5.
UPF’s Val Prusi went 3 for 4 with two homers while Carly Johnson had a bases-loaded and -clearing double.
Amanda Phillipson hit two homers and Jessica Taylor added one in OSS’ 28-0 blanking of Marquette Embroidery.
Macey Nault homered and Cheryl Churack tripled as Willey’s Tire Shop scored a 14-3 win over Willey’s Tire Shop, which saw Krystal Heikkinen go 2 for 3 with a triple.
