Munson doubles up on mound for Black Diamond

MARQUETTE — Black Diamond Car Wash of Negaunee posted three wins, averaging 18 runs a game, in the Minor Division of Little League baseball during the week of June 2.

Minor baseball

Black Diamond blanked U.P. Rehab of Marquette 18-0 as winning pitcher Connor Munson went three scoreless innings, allowing just one hit while striking out eight. Teammate Waylon Harvala had an inside-the-park homer.

Black Diamond’s other victory was a 20-11 decision over Goodwin’s of Marquette. Munson again got the pitching win as teammate Ty Niemi pounded out four hits, while Munson and Griffin Leece had three hits apiece.

Black Diamond also beat U.P. Health Plan of Marquette 16-6 as Leece won on the mound and Bryant Gleason hit an inside-the-park homer.

Evan Dellangelo struck out six to get the pitching victory in the Negaunee Elks’ 20-3 win over U.P. Rehab, getting relief help from Jordan Erva and Aries Korsman. He helped his own cause with two in-the-park homers, while teammates Aiden Cardinal, Peyton Black and Tucker Taskila each went 2 for 2.

In other Minor games, Negaunee VFW slid past Bjork & Zhulkie of Ishpeming 13-9, downed Range Bank of Marquette 12-3 and slipped past Ishpeming KC’s 10-1; and U.P. Rehab upended UPHP 12-9 and snuck past Bell Physicians of Negaunee 8-5.

Major baseball

Luke Menard hit a three-run homer to help Cliffs of Negaunee get past Super One Foods of Ishpeming 9-7.

In other Major contests, Heritage Properties posted a 7-2 in over Meijer’s of Marquette and 5-3 win over Cliffs while tying UPPCO of Ishpeming 3-3; Meijer’s flew by Honor Credit Union of Gwinn 16-1; First Bank of Ishpeming slid around UPPCO 13-3; and the Ishpeming Lions outscored Wells Fargo of Negaunee 13-7.

Junior baseball

The only score reported was a 10-7 win posted by Kiwanis of Ishpeming over Richardson Jewelers of Negaunee.

Minor softball

Brielle Anderson and Aurora Ghiardi each went 3 for 3 to help winning pitcher Maijah Speaker in the Blue Sox of Negaunee’s 9-6 win over Marquette Red.

In other games, Tino’s of Negaunee nipped Marquette Red 6-5 while Lammi Fire Protection of Negaunee eked by the Blue Sox 2-0.

Major softball

Madison Pekrul and Theresa Anderson each had RBS in GE Builders’ 15-14 squeaker over Ishpeming #1.

Halle Haynes and Mardi Anderson led Ishpeming #2 at the plate to support pitchers Hayley Taylor and Keira Lindberg in a 22-12 victory over Marquette Red.
