Luke edges Sellers for U.P. Junior Golf Tour title

MARQUETTE — Joseph Luke edged out fellow Marquette golfer Ethan Sellers after a two-hole playoff to win the boys’ 16-18-year-old division in the opening event of the Upper Peninsula Junior Golf Tour held at the Heritage course of the Marquette Golf Club on June 18.

Luke and Sellers each shot 81 in the regulation 18 holes for the closest finish of the day.

Tyler Annala of Champion shot 79 to beat out Drew Anderson of Norway’s 84 in boys 14-15, Marino Pisani of Houghton carded 43 to beat out fellow Houghton golfer Lake O’Neill’s 48 for boys 12-13, Ian Hong of Houghton shot 43 to fend off Jack Pond of Marquette’s 46 for boys 10-11 and Nolan McCutcheon of Marquette had 41 to beat out Asher Pace of Newberry’s 43 for boys 8-9.

In the girls division, Morgan Rhoades of Marquette shot 43 to capture the 14-15 division, Abigail Luke of Marquette had 54 in 12-13 and Olivia Stade carded 64 in 10-11.

The tour was scheduled to have a stop at Pictured Rocks Golf Club on Monday, before taking a holiday break and resuming at TimberStone Golf Club in Iron Mountain on July 8 and Riverside Country Club in Menominee on July 9.

The 10-stop series concludes with a regular event at Indian Laakae Golf Club in Manistique on Aug. 5 and the UPGA Junior Tour Championship back at the Marquette Golf Club on Aug. 15.
