Bjork & Zhulkie/Togo’s earns state Midget BB crown

The Bjork & Zhulkie/Togo’s team representing the Iron Range Hockey Association won the Michigan Amateur Hockey Association state title in the 18-under Midget BB division at the tournament held at the Negaunee Ice Arena from March 9-11. The B&Z/Togo’s team outscored its opponents 26-2 in three pool play games, then went on to dispatch St. Ignace 5-1 in the semifinals and the Detroit-area Michigan Ice Hawks 4-3 in the championship when Eric Hurst scored the game-winner in the third period. Due to a number of injuries earlier in the season, B&Z/Togo’s was a below-.500 team that dispatched the two-loss Ice Hawks in the state finals.
