MARQUETTE – The Marquette County YMCA Killer Whales swim team opened its season at the Northern Lights Splash-N-Dash meet held in Iron Mountain on Oct. 22.
Among the 37 Killer Whales who competed, there were several multiple-event winners.
They included Jayme Winn, 14, who picked up wins in the 50 freestyle, 100 free, 50 breaststroke and 50 backstroke; Andrew King, 11, in the 50 free, 100 free, 50 butterfly and 50 back; Jack Pozega, 7, in the 25 free, 50 free, 25 fly and 25 back; and Delaney Marchiol, 11, in the 50 fly and 100 free.
Also getting wins were Aidan Rastall, 9, in the 25 fly, Kaytlin Roell, 7, in the 50 free and Sevi Voigt, 8, in the 50 back.
Other medalists included Maverick Baldwin, 11, second place in the 50 and 100 free; Andon Buyarski, 11, second in the 25 breast; Emma Crandell, 13, second in the 50 free; Paige Davis, 9, third in the 50 fly; Elle Durand, 8, second in the 50 free; Nina Fassbender, 7, third in the 25 fly; Lexi LaCombe, 13, second in the 50 breast and 50 fly and third in the 50 free; Caden LaFayette, 11, third in the 50 free and 100 free; Delaney Marchiol, 12, second in the 50 free and 50 back; Elaine Reynolds, 9, second in the 50 free; Kaytlin Roell, 7, second in the 25 fly and third in the 25 free; Grace Sobczak, 10, second in the 50 free, 50 back, 50 breast and 100 free; Cody Struck, 9, second in the 25 free; and Sevi Voigt, 8, third in the 50 free and 50 breast.
