Slone, Caliguri, Annala lead Martin Sports

NEGAUNEE – Martin Sports kept its lead in Class B of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League with a 20-16 win over Quality Car Care on Wednesday.

Martin’s Veronica Slone went 4 for 4 with a homer and four RBIs, Cortney Caliguri 3 for 3 with a double and three RBIs and Wendi Annala 3 for 4. Quality’s Gina Debelak and Becky Moyle went 4 for 5.

In another Class B game, Natalee Dobson, who homered, and Jordann Grigg each went 2 for 3 as Jack’s TeePee 1 upset Honkala Construction 10-7.

Jen Polkki, who tripled, and Kaylin Massie each went 4 for 4 as Paradise beat AAA Insurance 20-9. The winners’ Jessica Harper was 3 for 5 with a homer, while AAA’s Ann Herman was 3 for 4 with a triple and Chelsea Roberts 2 for 3.

Jessica Taisto hit a grand slam homer and went 4 for 5 to lead Pasquali’s past Signs Unlimited 23-9. Teammate Frannie Kelly was 5 for 5 while Signs’ Nicole Chapman hit a homer and Becca LaChapelle a triple.

Amanda Wilcox was 2 for 3 to lead Dave’s Collision to a 7-5 win over Venice 3, which got a homer and triple from Caylie Gray and a double from Joline Silva.

In Class C, Cheryl Churack homered to help Eastwood ease past U.P. Fabricating 9-8. Teammates Taryn Gleason, Chelsea Hewitt and Sandy Gervae all had a double, Gleason’s coming with the bases loaded to knock in three runs.

U.P. Fabricating’s Rachael Mager tripled while Lynn Laakso turned a double play.

Tino’s remained undefeated on the season after Taryn Moyle and Katie Rankinen both homered in a 22-9 win over Palomaki Family Chiropractic.

Yooper Shirts remained a game back with a huge 44-6 win over Jack’s Teepee 2. The winners’ Casey Duggan and Tera Bell belted three homers apiece with each including a grand slam in the mix.

Rachel Scott was 3 for 3, all triples, to support winning pitcher Emily Rushford, who struck out seven, in River Rock Lanes’ 10-2 win over Willey’s Tire Shop.

Willey’s Monica Cox doubled and Christina Giotto knocked in two runs.

Taylor Wilber tripled to lead Rookies to an 11-4 win over Wooden Nickel, which got a good catch in leftfield from Reva Hudson.

Hannah Bertucci was 5 for 5 as Bertucci Construction upended Xccelerated Fitness 13-6. The winners’ Kinsie Bertucci and XF’s Payton Drew both homered.

Annette Gleason, who went 3 for 3, and Katie Menard homered as Marquette Embroidery pulled off a 28-0 blanking of Venice 2, which got doubles from Mckenzie Richards, Amy Richards and Kim McLaren.

In Class A, Taylor Watters hit the game-winning homer in Jasper Ridge Brewery’s 22-20 slugfest win over Jubilee Foods.

Teammate Erika Roberts hit two homers and Katie Morrison one, while Jubilee’s Courtney Finkbeiner was 5 for 5 with a homer and Amanda Harlock 4 for 5 with a triple and two doubles.

Terri Tammelin was 3 for 4 with a homer as Cognition Brewing Co. held onto first place with a 17-9 win over Screened Image, which got a triple from Amy Schultz.

Libby Nelson went 3 for 3 to help Buck’s Party Store stay in the title hunt with an 11-7 win over Venice 1. Teammates Dindy Cousineau and Jamie Cory each went 2 for 3, while Venice’s Amy Steele was 3 for 3 and Abbie Salisbury 3 for 4.

Anna Dompierre-Noskey went 4 for 4 with a homer and triple to help Sisters pull off a 17-6 win over Crossfit 906. Teammate Linda Dompierre went 4 for 4 with a triple and Jesse Rosten homered, while Crossfit’s Kim Koski cranked two triples.

Cassy Sandberg cracked two homers and Katie Tonge one as Cliffs Natural Resources pulled out a 19-11 win over the Negaunee Eagles, which had a 4-for-4 night from Micailly Carlson.
