MARQUETTE – Cognition Brewing Co. suffered its first loss of the season when Sara Polini and Dindy Cousineau each went 3 for 4 to lead Buck’s Party Store to a 12-10 win in Class A of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on Aug. 3.
Buck’s pulled within a half-game of Cognition despite Cognition’s Mariah Dunham going 4 for 4 and Mandie Meyer 3 for 4 as each homered.
In another Class A game, Nicki Schultz, who homered twice, and Gabby Hebert each went 4 for 4 to lead Screened Image to an 11-3 win over Venice 1, which got a run and 2-for-2 game from Michelle Turri.
Jesse Rosten hit two doubles and knocked in three runs to lead Sisters to a 23-8 spanking of the Negaunee Eagles. The winners’ Sandie Whitford and Angie Juidici each had a double, while the Eagles’ Amy Bazinette and Janice Fleming both went 3 for 3.
Alyssa Bjork went 5 for 5 with a homer and triple as Jasper Ridge Brewery dumped Cliffs Natural Resources 24-7. Jasper teammate Steph Abata was 4 for 5 while Cliffs’ Cassy Sandberg was 4 for 4.
Courtney Finkbeiner homered in Jubilee Foods’ 8-0 shutout of Crossfit 906.
In Class B, Martin Sports Apparel moved into first place alone with a 15-9 win over Pasquali’s.
Martin’s Joanna Smail, who doubled, and Ashley Talus, who had two RBIs, each went 3 for 4, while Ashley Asgaard was 2 for 4 with a double and three RBIs.
Pasquali’s Jessica Taisto went 4 for 4 with a homer and triple.
Mary Zhulkie went 4 for 5 with a double and Erica Tweedale homered to lead Jack’s TeePee 1 to a 23-12 upset of former coleader Quality Car Care.
QCC’s Lori Rivord tripled and Becky Moyle doubled.
Honkala Construction remained two games out with a 26-15 win over Dave’s Collision. Honkala’s Mia Storm and Laura L’Esperance both homered, while Dave’s Jamee Gobert had a homer, triple and two doubles and Amy Niemi was 3 for 4.
Venice 3 also stayed two games back with a 33-11 win over AAA Insurance. The winners’ Nichi Sundberg was 5 for 5 with a homer, triple and double, while Caylie Gray homered and Katy VanBuren tripled.
AAA’s Kaitlyn Rich tripled as Chelsea Roberts and Toni Pikonen both doubled.
Becky Gauthier was 3 for 4 and Liz King 2 for 3 as Signs Unlimited pulled out a 14-10 win over Paradise, which got a 4-for-4 night from Jen Polkki and 2-for-3 effort from Kira Massie.
In Class C, Amber Salo was 4 for 5 including a grand slam homer as Tino’s remained unbeaten with a 13-10 win over River Rock Lanes, which got a homer from Rachel Scott.
Yooper Shirts remained a game out by posting a 19-15 win over Eastwood. The winners’ Tera Bell and Megan DeChambeau each homered, while Eastwood’s Anna Chipman was 3 for 3 with a double and Jax Peterson tripled and had three RBIs.
Krystal Foster was 4 for 4 and Jenni Quayle homered to support winning pitcher Kathy Gischia in Palomaki Family Chiropractic’s 13-12 nailbiter over U.P. Fabricating.
UPF’s Lynn Laakso was 4 for 5 while Jessa Johnson homered.
Bethany Firby homered and Monica Cox tripled to lead Willey’s Tire Shop to a 17-12 win over Wooden Nickel. The Nickel’s Kathy Zyble and Karen Wiegand each went 4 for 4 while Whitney Baugnat homered.
Kinsie Bertucci was 4 for 4 with a triple and Hannah Bertucci cracked two doubles as Bertucci Construction scored an 8-2 win over Venice 2.
Rookies scored a 14-0 victory over Marquette Embroidery while Xccelerated Fitness won by forfeit over Jack’s TeePee 2.
