MARQUETTE – The Marquette BMX track hosting a special afternoon of racing on Aug. 6 that included a single-point Warnicke scholarship race, special open racing for kids, the Upper Peninsula BMX reunion races and Mr. Bike of Escanaba donating bikes that the track will use as loaner bikes.
The Warnicke scholarship races raise funds for USA BMX members going to college as racers came from Wisconsin, California, Texas and Ontario.
In the reunion races, 28 racers participated in 12 open races to cut the field to 16 for the semifinals, then eight for the finals.
In regular nights of racing, on Aug. 4, Marquette racers Cole Goedert, 6, Luc Gervais, 7, and Michael Noble, 22, each won in class and open races, while on Aug. 2, Jack Grant, 7, of Marquette picked up his first win.
