Fortin tosses gem for Marquette Fence
MARQUETTE – Andy Fortin threw six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and striking out six, as Marquette Fence blanked Cal’s Party Store 8-0 on June 29.
Fortin helps his own cause, going 2 for 4 with a double and four RBIs, while teammate Ryan Schmeltzer pitched in going 2 for 3 with two RBIs.
Cal’s Kevin Sprawl also worked six innings on the rubber, fanning two as Kyle Zorza doubled and Matt Wuokko was credited for stellar defense at third base.
In another game that night, 906 Realtors.com/Coldwell Banker defeated Champion Glass 9-4 as John Daavettila was 3 for 4 with three RBIs and Brian Pietila 2 for 3 with an RBI to support winning hurler Steve Daavettila, who went seven innings.
Bryan Argall took the pitching loss despite striking out five over seven innings as teammate Matt Lorenz and Luke Swajanen each scored and combined to go 3 for 5.
Earlier in the week, winning pitcher Dylan Paterson cracked a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to lead Fox Motors Marquette to a 4-3 win over Marquette Fence. He gave up just four hits on the rubber.
The winners’ Tanner Giroux added a triple and scored twice, while Blaise Zimmer led Fence, going 3 for 3 with a double and two RBIs. Ryan Labin took the pitching loss.
On June 30, Craig Storm homered in a 3-for-5 night as 906 Realtors edged Jackson Pit of Negaunee 10-9. Teammates Dan L’Esperance and Brian Pietila each went 3 for 4 with three runs scored in support of winning pitcher Steve Daavettila.
Jackson Pit’s Kyle Wills and Zac Garceau had multihit games and added four RBIs.
Cory Konich starred with the glove and at the plate in Champion Glass’ 8-5 win over Fox Motors Marquette. Konich and Dallas McLaughlin each went 2 for 3 as Konich had three RBIs and McLaughlin stole three bases and scored three runs to help out winning hurler Brian Masuga.
Paterson took the pitching loss as Brad Waters and Marty Hopf combined to go 5 for 6.
