ISHPEMING – Amy Young hit a grand slam homer and Heather Sandstrom the more garden-variety four-bagger to lead Marquette Embroidery to a 19-18 cliffhanger over Wooden Nickel in Class C of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League on May 25.
In other Week 3 action from this division, Katy Trudgeon and Krystal Foster each went 4 for 4 to help Palomaki Family Chiropractic ease past Willey’s Tire Shop 12-11.

Alexandria Jarvis was credited for great fielding and teammate Renae Carlson tripled to edge Xccelerated Fitness past Venice 2, 5-4. Venice’s Krystal Frederickson and Sue Luokkala each had a hit and scored a run.
Valerie Prusi, who homered, and Lynn Laakso each went 4 for 4 to lead U.P. Fabricating to a 21-0 whitewash of Jack’s Teepee 2, whose PJ Stephens was credited for her pitching effort.
Ally Solander homered and Kennan Marana tripled to lead Rookie’s past Red Rock Lanes 18-3. Red Rock’s Brianna Johnson went 3 for 3.
All nine players were credited for their teamwork in Yooper Shirts’ 14-9 win over Bertucci Construction. BC’s Jodi Hemmila went 3 for 4 while Hannah Bertucci tripled.
Katie Rankinen went 4 for 4 with two triples to power Tino’s past Eastwood 16-1. The winners’ Kara Harrington, Josey Moyle and Amber Salo each went 3 for 4.
In Class A, Venice 1 needed extra innings to slip past Buck’s Party Store 9-8. Venice’s Abbie Salisbury homered as Kerry White and Brandi Logan tripled. White and Buck’s Shannon Clemo and Liz Hamming had two hits apiece.
LeAnn Saarela had a grand slam homer among her three hits to push Jasper Ridge Brewery past the Negaunee Eagles 17-2. Teammate Amber Emanuelson along with the Eagles’ Michelle Augustyn and Chassity Ellet all had two hits.
Mariah LaPointe-Dunham homered, tripled and doubled to ease Cognition Brewing Company past Screened Image 13-3. The winners’ Jeni Fittante and SI’s Amy Schultz both went 3 for 3.
Bree Ranta and Natalie Talbacka both went 4 for 4 to hurdle Crossfit 906 over Jubilee Foods 18-13. Teammate Traci Sundberg was 3 for 4.
Jubilee’s Christina Rader, Steph Shirkey, Sue Rice and Megan Olson all went 4 for 4.
Cassy Sandberg and Ashley Pietro both homered to help Cliffs Natural Resources scored a one-touchdown, 17-10 victory over Sisters. Pietro also hit a double while teammate Randi Boule tripled.
Sisters’ Sandie Whitford hit a triple and two doubles while Jesse Rosten tripled and Rylee Whitford doubled.
In Class B, Caylie Gray was cited for superb defense in Venice 3’s 24-21 triumph over AAA Insurance. Teammate Suzanne Goldsworthy doubled, while AAA’s Toni Enrietti hit a homer, triple and double and Ashley Roberts collected two hits.
Jessica Harper was 3 for 3 and Kathy Maynard and Amie Oxford both went 2 for 2 to lead Paradise to a 6-5 clipping of Signs Unlimited. Signs’ Sandy Carlson was 3 for 4 and Nicole Chapman 2 for 3.
Sarah Amis homered and Lori Rivord went 2 for 3 to help Quality Car Care nick Jack’s Teepee 1, 9-7. Jack’s Alyssa Erspamer and Tina Maki had three hits apiece.
Michelle Gray went 4 for 5 with two doubles and four RBIs to help Martin Sports overcome Pasquali’s 23-14. The winners’ Ashley Talus added a 3-for-4 night including a double and four RBIs while Jamie Caliguri was 2 for 2 with a double and three RBIs.
Pasquali’s Nicki Frisk was 5 for 5 and Tracy Mitchell 4 for 5 as each doubled.
Honkala Construction used a six-run inning to get past Dave’s Collision 16-10.
