NEGAUNEE – Kristen Daavettila slid into home plate with the game-winning run in the eighth inning to lead Honkala Construction to a 13-12 victory over Jack’s TeePee 1 on June 8 in Class B of the Iron Range Women’s Softball League.
In other B games, Venice 3 outlasted Dave’s Collision 12-7 as the winners’ Becky Lee was 3 for 3 with a triple and Nicole Sundberg was 2 for 3 with a triple and double. Dave’s Mel Bess was 3 for 4 with two doubles, Jamee Gobert tripled and Shelley Roose was cited for her defense at shortstop.
Kaylin Massie was 4 for 4 and Amie Axford 3 for 4 as Paradise flew by AAA Insurance 16-9. AAA’s Chelsea Roberts was 2 for 3 with a homer and Ashley Roberts tripled.
Nicki Frisk had a triple and three RBIs and Tricia Miilu doubled with two RBIs as Pasquali’s blanked Signs Unlimited 15-0. Signs’ Nicole Chapman was 2 for 2.
Doni Hernandez was 2 for 3 to help Quality Car Care overcome Martin Sports 17-11. Martin’s Veronica Slone was 3 for 3 with a homer.
In Class C, Cheryl Churack went 4 for 4 with a grand slam homer to lead Eastwood past Willey’s Tire Shop 13-10. Teammates Chelsea Hewitt and Taryn Gleason each had a double, as did Willey’s Monica Fox. Willey’s Bethany Firby tripled.
Kara Harrington had a triple and two doubles during a 5 for 5 night as Tino’s put together a 21-3 win over Jack’s TeePee 2 in five innings. The winners’ Josey Moyle was 3 for 3 with a homer, Nikki Klenc 4 for 4 and Marina Nault 3 for 4.
Jordan Wixtrom, Brianna Johnson and Danielle Sierra all went 3 for 3 to lead Red Rock Lanes over Marquette Embroidery 18-3. Wixtrom had a homer and triple among her hits, while Johnson tripled. Embroidery’s Erin Saari and Joette Holman each had an RBI.
Krista Squires went 5 for 5 as Rookies went on a scoring spree in a 31-3 victory over Palomaki Family Chiropractic. PFC’s Katie Trudgeon and Madison Pruette each were 2 for 2.
Sarah Kurian and Lilly Kurian each went 1 for 3 with a run scored as Venice 2 doubled up Wooden Nickel 6-3.
Loretta Willey homered to push Yooper Shirts past Xccelerated Fitness 21-6. XF’s Payton Drew doubled.
Jessa Johnson tripled in U.P. Fabricating’s 7-4 win over Bertucci Construction.
In Class A, Crossfit 906 outhit Cliffs Natural Resources 20-13 as the winners’ Erin King homered and Liz Steve doubled as each went 4 for 5. Teammate Katie Richer was 4 for 4 with a double.
Cliffs’ Ashley Pietro and Julie Boule each went 4 for 4 as Pietro tripled and Cassy Sandberg homered.
Steph Robar and Chelsie Wealton each went 4 for 5 with a homer to lead Venice 1 past Screened Image 21-6. SI’s Amy Schultz was 2 for 3 with three RBIs.
Cathy Bertucci collected four hits and teammates Katlyn Axford, Sheri Wooden and Steph Shirkey each had three in Jubilee Foods’ 15-8 win over the Negaunee Eagles. The Eagles’ Chastity Ellet had three hits and Micailly Carlson two.
Debbi Zummak and Janet Koski both were 4 for 5 as Buck’s Party Store upended Jasper Ridge Brewery 25-4. JRB’s Erika Roberts and LeAnn Saarela each went 2 for 2.
Megan Schober was 4 for 4 with a triple as Cognition Brewing Co. downed Sisters 26-6. Sisters’ Jesse Rosten was 3 for 3 with a triple.
Week 4 – June 1
Hannah Holma, Taylor Ring and Nikki Schultz were the hitting heroes for Screened Image, which pulled out a 16-15 victory over Jubilee Foods in the bottom of the seventh inning in a Class A game on June 1.
Holma went 5 for 5 with two doubles, Ring was 4 for 4 and Schultz 4 for 5, overcoming big nights by a trio of Jubilee players – Amanda Harlock going 5 for 5 and Christina Rader and Cathy Bertucci each 4 for 5.
The league played a limited schedule due to rain forcing postponement of a number of games.
Also in Class A, the Negaunee Eagles upended Crossfit 906 13-9 as Ecko Popps, who doubled, and Janelle Buttery each went 3 for 4 and Aubri Romback was 2 for 2 in support of winning pitcher Sue Bazinette.
Crossfit’s Kim Koski and Cristine Larson both were 4 for 4, Koski including two doubles and Larson one.
In Class C, Red Rock Lanes slipped past Bertucci Construction 14-10 as the winners’ Rachel Scott was 4 for 4 with a triple and Jordan Wixtrom had a triple and double. Bertucci’s Kinsie Bertucci tripled.
Nikki Klenc went 4 for 4 with three doubles and a triple as Tino’s outslugged Willey’s Tire Shop 18-3. Teammates Kara Harrington, Josey Moyle and Taryn Moyle all homered among three hits as Harrington also had a triple and Taryn Moyle a double.
Willey’s Bethany Firby was cited for her excellent fielding.
Cheryl Churack homered in Eastwood’s 13-3 win over Venice 2 as she, teammate Kristin Murray and Venice’s Mara Martin all had triples.
Ashley Wanhala hit a homer in Rookie’s 27-18 win over U.P. Fabricating.
In Class B, Laura L’Esperance was cited for several good throws to first base in Honkala Construction’s 8-4 win over Venice 3.
Dave’s Collision defeated Pasquali’s 14-10 though no details were available.
