MARQUETTE – The Marquette mBank girls defeated Alpena 2-0 in the championship game to capture the state Under-19 title in March.
Goaltender Brianna Holman recorded the shutout, her fourth of the tournament.
Sara Cameron and Jillian Frye notched goals for mBank, which posted a 30-16-6 overall record for the season. Collecting assists were Ashley Francis and Sydney Lake.
In the semifinals, mBank beat the Bad Axe Snow Leopards, 3-2, behind goals by Frye, Annie Boyer and Lexi Rabitaille.
Frye, Hannah Swajanen, Kali Dennis and Lexi Anderson recorded assists as Holman was again in goal.
In another game, MBank recorded a 0-0 scoreless tie against Midland with Holman credited with another shutout.
The Marquette skaters also blanked Alpena 2-0 as Frye and Lake dented the twine. Anderson and Rabitaille picked up assists; Holman was in the net.
Holman opened mBank’s tournament play with an 8-0 shutout over Manistique.
Hannah Swajanen and Ashley Francis tallied two goals apiece. Also scoring were Mackenzie Masters, Anderson, Rabitaille and Hannah Zerbst. Recording helpers were Masters, Lake, Francis, Boyer, Frye and Julia Johnson.
The mBank team was coached by Tony Rabitaille, Greg Swajanen, Pat Francis and Ken Holman.
The team also captured the Central Upper Peninsula Hockey League championship with a 16-3-5 mark.
