Marquette’s softball season ends in D-1 district semi at TC

TRAVERSE CITY — Marquette’s high school softball season ended on Saturday afternoon with a 6-3 loss to Alpena during an MHSAA Division 1 district tournament semifinal hosted by Traverse City West High School. The Sentinels spotted Alpena a 6-0 lead before breaking through on the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth inning. Pickford boys dominate D-2 boys track, Munising 6th, Gwinn 8th

KINGSFORD — Pickford continued its winning ways here Saturday, taking home the Division 2 boys high school track and field title at the Upper Peninsula Finals in Kingsford on Saturday. Winning for the fifth straight year, the Panthers’ current streak started in 2022 when they were still competing in Division 3. Since moving up to D-2, Pickford has gone 4 for 4. This year, the Panthers scored 139 points, followed by Rudyard with 104, Bark River-Harris 77, and Norway and West Iron County with 47 apiece. Sentinels softball finishes regular season with sweep

MARQUETTE — Marquette swept a high school softball doubleheader at home against Menominee to finish its regular season on Wednesday. The Sentinels recorded 6-5 and 18-3 victories in preparation for today’s MHSAA Division 1 district tournament to be held at Traverse City West. After the two hometown schools, Central and West, square off at 10 a.m., Marquette takes on Alpena at noon. The winners play for the district championship at 2 p.m., also at TC West.
