Redettes sweep Manistique

MARQUETTE — Manistique kept creeping closer each set, but Marquette still hung in for a three-set high school volleyball victory over the Emeralds on Thursday night.

The Redettes won 25-16, 25-22, 27-25 to improve to 7-1-1.

“Manistique has a strong program and … we knew they had a couple of strong hitters and that we were going to have to work for it,” MSHS head coach Ann Crandell-Williams said. “It felt like both teams used a full range of shots and covered the floor well.

“They had us on the ropes a few times where we had to mentally push through and ended up succeeding, which was great for our girls’ confidence.”

Seiler Hruska had a big night, making 23 of the Redettes’ 38 kills. She also had 11 digs and two service aces.

Maria Millado added six kills, two aces, eight digs and two blocks, while Aspen Michelin had 11 digs, three blocks, two kills and two aces.

Teammate Maiya King had 30 set assists to go with two aces and seven digs, as Tellena Nystrom made 11 digs and had a block, two kills and four aces.

Marquette participates in the Mitten Bay Classic hosted by Bay City Central this morning.
