Dawson knocks in game winner for Redmen soccer

By Journal Sports Staff

PETOSKEY — The Marquette Senior High School boys soccer team evened its season record at 3-3 with a 4-3 victory at Petoskey on Friday afternoon.

The Northmen tied the game twice before Redmen freshman Max Dawson knocked home the game-winner off an assist from senior Joe Lagrou with about seven minutes remaining.

Senior Trevor Salmon had a lot with setting up Dawson’s heroics as he had a hand in Marquette’s first three scores, registering two goals and an assist.

Salmon opened the scoring off a header and assist from junior Lewis Goff before junior teammate Connor Johnson made it 2-0 in the first half off a Salmon assist.

Petoskey got one back before halftime to make it 2-1 at the break, then tied it 2-2 early in the second half.

Salmon put the ball in the net again with an assist going to sophomore Zane Phillips to make it 3-2 before the Northmen again tied it.

Sophomore goalkeeper Harrison Anthos made nine saves for MSHS, coached by Dan Menze and Collin Lake.

The Redmen remain downstate to play at Traverse City Central at 1 p.m. today.
