Bessemer boys, Lake Linden girls take first at Division 3 Dome Meet Thursday

MARQUETTE — At the Superior Dome Division 3 Meet Thursday afternoon, two teams finished well ahead of the competition.

The Bessemer boys and Lake Linden-Hubbell girls easily took their respective meets in convincing fashion with Bessemer finishing with 146 points, well ahead of second place North Central (59) and LL-H had 117 points, 57 ahead of Stephenson.

The Speedboys won all four relays and the 3,600 medley along with having five individual champions. Jamie Jett won two of those titles in the 55-meter hurdles and the long jump, while Tad Row won the 400 dash, Tyler Busch took first in the shot put and Zach Baross won the pole vault.

Other boys champions were Stephenson’s Montell Glover (100 and 200 dashes), Cedarville’s Thomas Bohn (800 and 1,600 runs) and Carney-Nadeau’s Jacob Blahnik (high jump).

Over on the girls side, the Lakes had three individual winners in Mariah Willmer (400 dash), MacKenzie LePage pole vault) and Jamie Hendrickson (high jump).

Mid Peninsula dominated the relay events, taking first in three of them, while Chassell won the 4X800 relay and the 3,600 medley. Daisy Englund also won the 800 run for the Wolverines.

Superior Central’s Danika Walters was the only local champion as she finished on top in the 1,600 run (5:44.10). Other individual winners included Stephenson’s Amanda Starzynski (100 and 200 dashes, long jump), Ontonagon’s Nicole Lukkari (55 meter hurdles) and Carney-Nadeau’s Sandra Boulton (shot put).
