ISHPEMING — The Westwood wrestling program has been growing in strength the last couple of years and on Saturday, the Patriots put on that power on display at the Westwood Super Duals.

Westwood finished 5-0 as a team at the meet, defeating second place Iron Mountain (54-30), Marquette (63-18), Negaunee (63-6), Bark River-Harris (54-18) and Gwinn (69-0) handily. The Patriots also had five wrestlers go undefeated at the meet with Sam Gilles (215 lbs.), Rocco Carlson (160), Kurt Anderson (285), Carter Guidebeck (171) and Joseph Derocha (112) making it through the day unscathed.

“Hard work pays off and that was evident today,” Patriots head coach Dan Carlson said.

“Iron Mountain gave us our toughest dual, but our endurance paid off and we finished strong when we needed to.”

Marquette, who finished 3-2, had two wrestlers finish undefeated at the meet in Joseph Lagrou (125) and Griffin Moore (130).
