Escanaba Football Clinic set

ESCANABA — A number of high school head coaches and a collegiate assistant coach headline the lineup at the 2018 Escanaba Football Clinic to be held Friday, April 20.

Set for the Terrace Bay Inn, the presenters include high school head coaches Dave Howes of Escanaba, Josh Rader of Pickford, Shane Fairfield of Muskegon and Phil Martin of Frankenmuth.

Another presenter will be Escanaba native and Finlandia University offensive line coach Travis Wiltzius.

Early registration fee is $35, or $30 for three or more coaches from the same school, while the fee on the day of the clinic is $40.

Howes, who led the Eskymos to the Division 4 semifinals last fall, discusses a “S.I.M.P.L.E. Philosophy” and football program and game prep.

Fairfield, whose Muskegon program is the winningest in the state, won the D-3 state title last fall and has been to the finals four other times since 2012, will talk about “Muskegon Defense” and defensive game week prep.

Wiltzius will cover developing young offensive linemen and footwork technique drills for blocking.

Martin, whose Frankenmuth team made the D-5 state semis the past two seasons, will discuss the “Frankenmuth Option” including from power and spread formations.

Rader, whose Pickford squad was also a semifinalist the past two years, will talk about the power running game in eight-player football.
