Redmen skate to 3-3 tie

By Journal Sports Staff

CHELSEA — The Marquette Senior High School hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with Chelsea Friday night in the Michigan Public High School Showcase in Chelsea.

The Redmen got off to a hot start, with goals from Brandon Campbell and Rory O’Connor in the first five minutes to give Marquette a quick 2-0 lead.

But the hosts responded moments later, as Micheal Milne cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 12:52 mark of the first.

After a quiet second period, Chelsea evened the game with as Jacob McIntyre got a goal past Marquette goalie Tyler Bergwall to make it a 2-2 game at the 1:54 mark in the third period.

Marquette’s Tanner Phillips put Marquette back on top with a wrister goal at 4:40 to give Marquette a 3-2 lead, but McIntyre evened the game once again midway through the period as the teams skated to a 3-3 tie.

“We came out with a good first period,” Garrow said. “Chelsea got a few goals to get back in it, but we picked up our play by the third period. There were a few mistakes on our part that led to their last goals. We could have avoided it, but it is what it is. We ended up tying ourselves.”

The Redmen will play their third and final game of the showcase at 10 a.m. against East Grand Rapids.
