Marquette wrestlers finish 5th at NM Championships

By Journal Sports Staff

GAYLORD — The Marquette Redmen wrestling team finished fifth out of 28 schools Saturday at the Northern Michigan Championships.

Beau Caster was Marquette’s only champion as he won the 160 lbs. bracket, but the Redmen had three other wrestlers place at the meet.

Joe Lagrou finished second at 103, Mitchell Connon took fourth at 171 and Collin Fure finished sixth at 119.

“I’m pretty happy with all our performances,” Marquette head coach Tony Gentz said.

“We had 12 guys compete and 11 of them earned points, so we had some good finishes.

“I’m really optimistic right now, both with our team and individuals. We’re coming together and that’s good to see.”

The Redmen wrestle again Monday in Negaunee in a triangular with the Miners and Ishpeming.
