Vikings win home opener
BARAGA — The Baraga girls basketball team built a 23-16 halftime lead and held off Ewen-Trout Creek 45-36 in the Vikings’ home opener on Thursday night.
Casey Mleko led the way for the Vikings with 17 points, but she spent much of the game in foul trouble.
“When she was in the game, we played much better,” BHS coach Keith Willis said. “She sat pretty much the whole third quarter and probably half of the second quarter. That was too bad. Had she been in the game the whole time, we probably would have scored a few more points.”
Teammate Carsyn Osterman also had a strong night, notching a double-double with 16 points and 14 rebounds while dishing out eight assists.
