BAY CITY — The Northern Michigan University men’s soccer team achieved a school record Saturday when four players were named to the various All-GLIAC squads.

Midfielder Kaffie Kurz made the First Team, while midfielder Ryan Palmbaum and defender Niko Scheibal got spots on the Second Team. Finally, goalkeeper Alex Weaver was an Honorable Mention selection.

A junior, Kurz scored his first two goals as a Wildcat this year along with an assist. He also won quite a few 50-50 balls and has started all 44 games of his NMU career. He had previously been named to the Honorable Mention Team twice.

Palmbaum led the Wildcats with four assists, 10 points and tied for the lead with three goals, one of them being a game-winner. His assists were tied for the conference’s regular season lead. A sophomore, Palmbaum broke the NMU career assists record and currently has 10. He was named GLIAC Freshman of the Year last season.

Scheibal picked up a nice honor during his first season. He helped the Wildcats earn three shutouts and was GLIAC Offensive Player of the Week March 30th after scoring the only goal in a win over Purdue Northwest.

Finally, sophomore Weaver played every minute in net for Northern this year and finished with 37 saves and three shutouts. He had a record of 4-3-1 and a save percentage of 75.5.
