NMU holds Green-Gold intrasquad swim meet; women’s team saluted

MARQUETTE — With just about every team at Northern Michigan University taking off the fall season when it comes to intercollegiate competition, the Wildcats swimming and diving teams came as close as any team would with its annual intrasquad meet, the Green and Gold Meet, at the PEIF pool on Saturday.

The Gold team came away with a close 217-205 victory as the NMU women’s teams was also presented its GLIAC Championship Meet rings at a ceremony during the meet.

There were a trio of three-time winners, one winning two individual events as Roberto Camera of the Gold won the 50-yard men’s freestyle in 21.77 seconds and the 100 breaststroke in 59.51 while swimming a leg of the victorious 200 medley relay.

Skye Pineda took the 100 women’s backstroke for Green in 59.75 while swimming with both relay winners, the 200 medley and 400 free.

Emilia Morris won the women’s 50 free in 25.39 and swam with the same relays as Pineda for Green.

Mandy Baird and Ryan Leach swept the diving titles. Baird won the women’s one-meter with 198.25 points and three-meter with 216.55 for Gold, while Leach took the men’s one-meter with 152.45 and three-meter with 245.95 for Green.

Other double winners included Ondrej Zach, who came out on top for Green in the men’s 500 free in 4:39.36 and also in the 200 free, and Martixell Font Cantarero, who took the women’s 200 individual medley in 2:15.78 and 100 butterfly in 57.89 for Gold.

Four other swimmers also doubled up with at least one win in a relay. Gold’s Thibault Auger was on the men’s 200 medley relay and also won the 100 back in 53.79, Gold’s Erikas Kapocius won with the men’s 400 free relay and also in the 200 IM in 2:00.35, Gold’s Amir Saman Khajegi swam with the men’s 200 medley relay and took the 100 free in 48.08,

Green’s Michaela Nelson swam with the women’s 200 medley relay and won the 100 free in 54.79, and Sage Gettings, who swam with Green on both winning women’s relays.

Baird

Other winners were Ivan Amillo Escobedo, Pilar Perello Ferrer, Francesca Gastrow, Conor Graydon, Felipe Lemos, Levi Lewis, Ryan Lund, Katharina Springhetti and Vanessa Steigauf.
