Wildcats volleyball loses 3-0

BIG RAPIDS — Lizzy Stark made nine kills and 12 digs but it wasn’t nearly enough as the Northern Michigan University volleyball team was swept by nationally ranked Ferris State on Friday night.

The No. 16-ranked Bulldogs prevailed 25-16, 25-13, 25-16 to improve to 11-3 and 5-1 in the GLIAC. NMU slips to 5-9 and 2-4.

Stark also had a service ace and block assist, while teammate Abigail Durecki made six kills, two digs and a block.

In addition, the Wildcats’ Lauren Van Remortel had 21 set assists and three digs, while Alli Yacko had a team-high 17 digs.

NMU had its best run in the opening set, tying the game 4-4 on a Stark kill and pulling with one point several times after that, the last time at 13-12 on a Stark service ace.

The Wildcats remain on the road this weekend, traveling to Midland to play Northwood at 1 p.m. today before returning home for matches against Ashland at 4:30 p.m. Friday and Wayne State at 4 p.m. next Saturday.
