LEBANON, Ill. — The Northern Michigan University women’s lacrosse team had its first GLIAC road game Friday and it didn’t end well for the Wildcats.
NMU fell behind McKendree 13-2 at the half and things got worse from there as the Bearcats thumped the Wildcats 22-3.
Emily Renfrew scored two of Northern’s goals, while Aleya Speas had the other.
Shannon Walus and Jessica Close both had three ground balls for the Wildcats (1-6, 0-3 GLIAC) and Walus also caused two turnovers.
Graison Ringlever and Bianca Kinder had two draw controls apiece for NMU and goalie Cam Stilson had 13 saves.
McKendree (3-3, 2-1) scored the first 10 goals of the game before Speas got NMU on the scoreboard with 11:12 remaining in the first half. The goal was her 14th of the season.
After the Bearcats put in another goal, Renfrew answered back at the 6:49 mark with her first tally of the game and 10th of the year.
However, McKendree held a commanding 11-goal lead at the break and it continued to pile on in the second half. Renfrew scored her second goal with 2:44 left, but the game’s outcome had already been determined.
Northern will try to end its six-game losing streak Sunday when it travels to Maryville (Mo.).
