By Journal Sports Staff
BLOOMINGTON, Minn. — Northern Michigan University defenseman Phil Beaulieu was an All-American last season and this past weekend, he showed why he earned that award with a three-point performance Friday night against Ferris State.
By tying a career-high with three assists during that 4-1 victory over the Bulldogs, Beaulieu was named WCHA Defenseman of the Week. He also had his second straight plus-2 night during Saturday’s 4-2 win over the Bulldogs to help NMU earn its second sweep of the season.
Beaulieu currently leads the Wildcats in assists with 13 and is second on the team in points with 14. He also is the WCHA’s leading defenseman in assists and is tied for second in points.
The Wildcats are off for two weeks before spending back-to-back-weekends in Alaska. NMU plays at Alaska Fairbanks Jan. 4-5 and then at Alaska-Anchorage Jan. 11-12. Northern’s next home weekend is Jan. 25-26 against Minnesota State.
