3 NMU volleyball players named to Wildcat Open all-tourney team

MARQUETTE — Three Northern Michigan University volleyball players were named to the Wildcat Open all-tournament team after NMU won all four of its matches over the weekend.

The three honorees were senior Autumn Monsma, junior Sarah Kuehn and sophomore Leticia Antunes.

Antunes notched 32 kills and tallied a .333 attack percentage Saturday in wins over Minnesota schools Bemidji State and St. Cloud State. She also added three aces and 27 digs.

Monsma finished with 30 kills and hit .426 with 20 digs, while Kuehn added 24 kills at a .429 clip.

Senior Maggie Liebeck chipped in with 19 kills and senior Lynzi Svoboda posted 95 assists, 12 kills and 14 digs.

Leading the defense was senior Rachel Braunschweig, who had 29 digs, while freshman Alli Yacko contributed 25.

And senior Jessica Skonning finished with a team-high four aces.

In Northern’s first match Saturday vs. Bemidji State, the Wildcats combined to hit .374 on the way to a 25-18, 25-22, 25-23 sweep.

Kuehn led the way with 16 kills and Antunes added 11. Svoboda tallied 40 assists while Braunschweig, Antunes and Yacko each had double-figure digs.

The nightcap against St. Cloud saw the team again hit well, finishing at .389. Monsma and Antunes both reached 21 kills and Svoboda notched 55 assists.

Braunschweig led the defense with 16 digs and Yacko and Antunes had 15. Monsma chipped in with 12 and Svoboda added 10.
