MARQUETTE — A total of 68 student-athletes from Northern Michigan University were named to the GLIAC All-Academic and All-Academic Excellence teams for the winter semester.

That represented a nearly 40 percent increase from the 49 who were honored for the same semester the previous academic year.

Women’s track and field led the way with 21 total honorees, while men’s swimming and diving had 20. Women’s swimming and diving had 14, women’s basketball nine and men’s basketball four.

The All-Academic Excellence team is reserved for students with at least a 3.50 grade-point average or above, were on an active winter sport roster at the end of the season and weren’t freshmen or first-year transfers.

All-Academic honors had the same criteria for students with a GPA between 3.00 and 3.49.

There were 37 Wildcats named to the All-Academic Excellence team — 18 in women’s track, eight in men’s swimming, six in women’s basketball, four in women’s swimming and one in men’s basketball.

In all, the GLIAC recognized 610 student-athletes.

These honors were only for sports with their primary seasons in the winter semester and were sponsored by the GLIAC. NMU winter sports that aren’t in the GLIAC include hockey and nordic skiing.

Here are the NMU student-athletes honored, with their year in school, major and hometown:
