WCHA sends 46 to camps

EDINA, Minnesota – Senior Dominik Shine and incoming freshman Rylan Yaremko of Northern Michigan University are just two of the 46 current and former WCHA players invited to participate in NHL development camps this spring and summer.

The nearly four dozen players come from nine league schools and are attending the camps of 20 NHL clubs.

The NHL teams include the Detroit Red Wings, who invited Lake Superior State alumnus and forward Alex Globke, who is already signed with the team.

Fourteen of them have already completed their collegiate eligibility, according to a news release from the WCHA.

Shine, a forward, is attending the Edmonton Oilers camp, while Yaremko, a defenseman, is at the New York Rangers camp. Both players are undrafted by the NHL.

Of the 32 still in the WCHA, there are eight who will be freshmen this coming season, 10 sophomores, 10 juniors and four seniors. Eleven are already NHL draft picks.

One, Michigan Tech junior defenseman Mark Auk, got two invites to Chicago and Edmonton. Only 10 other collegiate players nationwide could claim that distinction.

MTU had the most players and ex-players invited, 12, followed by the other regular-season co-champion, Minnesota State, with seven. Bowling Green had six, LSSU five and Ferris State and Alaska-Fairbanks four each.
