MARQUETTE – The Northern Michigan University men placed eighth and the women 17th at collegiate golf tournaments held in Ohio over the weekend.

Lundgren leads men

Emil Lundgren finished 14th after shooting 151 on rounds of 73 and 78 on Saturday and Sunday to lead the Wildcat men at a Great Lakes Midwest Regional tourney held at the par-71 The Jewell at Elks Run Golf Course in Batavia, Ohio.

Northern, in its second competition this spring, shot 619 after team rounds of 314 and 305. Martin Eliasson tied for 20th with 80-74-154, while Owen Beyer tied for 34th with 81-75-156, Austin Elsner tied for 50th with 80-78-158 and Logan Haight tied for 93rd with 87-79-166.

NMU was tied for seventh with Malone after the first round when Lundgren was tied for fifth.

Next up is another Great Lakes Midwest Regional on Sunday and Monday in Noblesville, Indiana.

Guthrie paces women

Karissa Guthrie shot rounds of 80 Sunday and 84 Monday for a two-day total of 164 and a tie for 14th place at the NC4K College Classic held at the Jefferson Country Club in Blacklick, Ohio.

The Northern women, in their second meet this spring, finished 17th with 723 after rounds of 355 and 368.

Next for the Wildcats was Baylee Dunmire coming in tied for 64th with 92-89-191, then Alyce Krumm in 82nd with 90-97-187 and Lillian Torres in 88th with 93-98-191.

Grand Valley State ran away with the team title with 613 on rounds of 299 and 314, while Findlay was 30 strokes back in second and Ashland another 15 back in third.

Kasey Frazier of Wheeling Jesuit University won the individual title with 75-74-149.

Northern is off this weekend before playing in the Walsh Invitational in Canton, Ohio, on April 16-17.
