An inside job

MARQUETTE – Spring football at Northern Michigan University comes to its culmination with the annual intrasquad game to be played at 3 p.m. Saturday inside the Superior Dome in Marquette.

“We’re excited to showcase the program and share a great day with our community,” NMU head coach Chris Ostrowsky said. “We have some great events scheduled with a couple special touchdowns that will be scored. It should be a lot of fun, and I can’t wait to see everyone in the dome.”

Admission is free for the team’s final organized event until the team regroups for fall practice in August. The team has been drilling for three or four days a week for the past four weeks leading up to the game, including several lower-profile scrimmages.

On Saturday afternoon, there will be several promotions before and during the game, including trivia with Northern athletics’ flagship radio station, WUPT 100.3 The Point, and throwing, punting and field goal contests. Fans can even win an opportunity to participate in the spring game.

Before the game from 1:15 to 1:45 p.m., the football team will hold a free clinic for youths ages 3 to 13.

On Friday, the Wildcat gridders host their spring showcase at 6:30 p.m. Also held in the Superior Dome, the event allows fans to engage with players and the coaching staff off the field and involves door prizes and auctions.

Throughout this event, football players will compete in strength and skills challenges, including a quarterback accuracy drill and a mixed relay featuring a final-lap truck push.

All proceeds from the spring showcase benefit the football team.
